How VR applications can be implemented

Recent best practices from companies

Professional training and upskilling

Structuring online learning concepts requires a different approach compared to face-to-face training. The focus here is on individual learning needs, gamification and active participation. Virtual Reality can foster learning motivation through game-based elements and can help to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Vodafone has developed a variety of VR Spaces for internal workshops, training and coaching programs, for example on the subject of coding.

Experiential marketing

Interactive VR experiences are a good way to reach a tech-savvy target group. As not many people currently own a VR headset but would still like to try it out, immersive installations are in high demand at trade fairs and events. A VR showroom can also be used to create an exciting brand experience. Blum, a manufacturer of furniture hardware, for example, has created a virtual training center so that potential apprentices can get a digital taste of the production facility at job fairs.

Industry 4.0

In the industrial context, product development and design can reach a new level with the assistance of VR simulations. Avoiding errors at an early stage helps to reduce iteration loops and optimize processes - even before a prototype is produced. VR software is also used in sales and marketing to explain high-tech products or complex machines and how they work more clearly to customers.

Entertainment

The feeling of being in a different place and together with other people creates new participation formats for sport, music and art. Concerts, theater plays or shows can take place in virtual environments and include social interaction. The project SocialSTAGE-VR researches how new productions for musical and artistic content can be designed with the help of VR. For example, a digital twin of the Chemnitz Opera House has been developed.

Virtual collaboration

The digital transformation is changing the way people interact and communicate with each other. Video conferences are already part of everyday life, but the feeling of being present is often lacking. VR meetings can provide even more interactive facilities and team spirit. Whether meeting room, forest clearing or virtual production facility: participants can meet as avatars in a fitting VR space and brainstorm together, develop concepts or get inspired.

FAQ: Virtual Reality Applications

What is the difference between AR and VR?

While Augmented Reality projects virtual content into the real environment, Virtual Reality involves being in a completely virtual environment.

What do I need for VR?
  1. Hardware: For most VR applications, you need a VR headset, such as the Meta Quest. This device works independently and has an integrated computer. There are also two controllers for navigation and interaction. Some VR systems are also connected to a PC or smartphone.
  2. Software: To access content such as VR showrooms or training environments, you need VR software (for example rooom).
How can I enjoy content in VR?

You can look around in VR spaces by turning your head and navigate using the controllers. The controllers can also be used to select objects and access content such as 3D product views, videos, mini-games or whiteboards. Digital sticky notes can also be used to capture memos and ideas during virtual collaboration.
